Logline Clinic: Sell Your Story in a Single Sentence
November 11 @ 6:30 pm – 7:45 pm EST
A live, interactive 75-minute clinic with Jennifer S. Wilkov

When someone asks, “What are you writing?” can you describe your story in a way that makes them want to know more?
Learn how to distill the heart of your book, screenplay, or episodic project into a clear, compelling logline. Through instruction, examples, guided exercises, and Q&A, you’ll develop a sentence you can use when pitching, querying, submitting, or talking about your project.
Bring your story. Create a compelling logline. Be prepared for “Tell me more.”

You Know Your Story. Now Make Someone Else Want to Know It.
You may have spent months or years developing your project. Explaining it in a single sentence can still feel challenging.
What belongs in that sentence?
What should you leave out?
How do you communicate the character, conflict, stakes, and hook without getting lost in backstory and subplots?
A compelling logline gives you a focused way to introduce your story and spark interest. This clinic will help you identify what matters most and make every word work.
What You’ll Work On
During the clinic, Jennifer will guide you through:
- The essential elements of a compelling logline. Understand how character, goal, conflict, stakes, and your story’s distinctive hook work together.
- Finding the heart of your story. Identify the central story you need to communicate and the details you can leave out.
- Structuring your sentence. Explore practical ways to organize your logline while preserving what makes your project distinctive.
- Drafting and refining. Use guided exercises to create a first draft or strengthen a logline you already have.
- Recognizing common mistakes. Learn to spot vague language, unnecessary detail, unclear stakes, and other choices that weaken a logline.
- Putting your logline to work. Understand how it can support queries, pitches, submissions, treatments, pitch decks, project bibles, and industry conversations.
Dedicated Q&A time is included so you can ask questions about creating, refining, and using loglines. Individual review of your project’s logline is included with the VIP Ticket.
