My publishing journey has been somewhat unique because it involves me acquiring the publishing company! Allow me to explain: Meek Publishing was (and is ) the publisher of a book that is used in my drug and alcohol treatment programs. Meek ran into a bit of trouble and I needed the book to continue to be published. I arranged with the owner of Meek Publishing to take over the company in order to continue the production of that particular book.
At the same time I was completing my own book, Relationships for the Intimately Challenged. I was in the final stages of editing and wanted to publish it through Meek Publishing. The philosophy of the company meshed with the message of my book and I had an existing relationship with the company. In fact, the book is about building strong relationships. It is going into its second printing with a new title: Connected: The Art of Building Relationships.
My book is my hook because it outlines my entire relationship building philosophy. Writing this book has allowed me to communicate with a broader audience in a meaningful way. It has also allowed to provide my clients with a guide as they go through one of my coaching programs. It serves as a reference to former clients and people who have attended my seminars and workshops. As a speaker, coach, and counselor it is vital to have this tool. Learning how to use “My Book as My Hook” has given me a paradigm shift. Jennifer’s philosophy is the best I have found to understand book marketing. Her approach has given me incredible and practical ideas. The credibility when I market myself in any of my professional areas is reinforced by my book. It is a powerful tool.
